Cisco DWDM / OTN design tool

Cisco has a dedicated DWDM/OTN design tool - Cisco Transport Planner (CTP) for typical long-haul and metro transmission system design. Below is a sample design that we've made. Most people would naturally assume that Cisco optical is much more expensive than other brands like Huawei, but this is NOT true. Actually for DWDM MUX/DEMUX, ROADM, Transponder / Muxponder, Cisco has a good competitive edge in pricing (sounds strange).

The reason why Cisco optical systems are not prevalent is more about field engineering, rather than product (that Cisco has a comprehensive end-to-end 10/40/100G product line). This is because typical Cisco partners, even very big Cisco partners are only focusing on ICT area, not really in telecom area, so the transmission engineering force is in desperate short.
