Catalyst 6500: Standard GE, 10GE and 40GE modular switch, L3, 1.28T capacity, big MAC and IP scale. Not recommended for new data center, being replaced by the new Catalyst 6800 series.
Catalyst 6800: Replacing the classic Catalyst 6500, adding to 880G per slot capacity, 10/40/100GE enabled, onePK for SDN, VS4O (new VSS), etc.
Nexus 3000/3500: Top-of-rack (ToR). 1~2RU, huge capacity (700G~1Tb+), 10/40GE downlinks, 3500 series are good for high-frequency trade, with sub-250ns latency, SDN for both Openflow and OnePK.
Nexus 5000: Rack aggregation (smaller), 1~2RU, huge capacity. Support LAN/SAN convergence (FC/FCoE).
Nexus 6000: Rack aggregation (bigger), 1 or 6 RU, huge capacity. 6004 supports 96 40GE. FCoE included. Analytics tools included.
Nexus 7000: Data center core, 10/40/100GE supported.
Nexus 9000: Data center core, 10/40/100GE supported, plus SDN, ACI architecture.
NCS 4000: Latest IP over DWDM (colored light line card), IP + OTN + MPLS-TP switching.
MDS 9700/9200: Multilayer storage director, 2/4/8/10Gbps FC. Pure storage switch.
Nexus 2000: Fabric Extender, works as fan-out of Nexus 3000/5000/6000/7000/9000 line card.
Nexus 1000v: 1000v is virtual switch in various environments.
Nexus VSM-CSP/VSG/AVS: VSM is the virtual switch controller, installed in dedicated hardware called CSP (a UCS server). VSG is the virtual switch gateway. AVS is the APIC virtual switch controller.
ME 1200: Access Carrier Ethernet switch, SDN, MEF 2.0, timing, OAM.
ME 3600X / 3800X: Aggregation Carrier Ethernet switch, being replaced by the new ASR 900 routers.
